Background Information
I completed my undergraduate studies at Queen’s University in Chemistry (B.Sc., 1998). My Honours research project was in the area of environmental analytical chemistry as part of a study of wastewater treatment under the supervision of Dr. G.W. vanLoon. I also have an Art History degree (B.A., 1999) that included a field course in Venice and coursework in the Art Conservation program. One course that profoundly affected the way that I think about mathematics and inspired my interest in math education was the “Math and Poetry” course (IDIS 303) taught by Dr. Peter Taylor and Dr. Maggie Berg.

In 2000, I finished my studies in the Concurrent Education program at Queen’s University (B.Ed., 2000) with basic qualifications in Intermediate/Senior Mathematics and Chemistry. I have taken additional qualification courses in Special Education (parts 1 & 2) and an Honours Specialist course.

I began my teaching career in 2000 at Rideau High School in Ottawa where I taught math, science and music, including sections in a system class for students with learning disabilities. In 2004, I moved to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School in Orléans as the Department Head of Mathematics and Music. I have been a member of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board’s math and science subject councils which organize a PD day for teachers, and part of a Board team involved in helping to implement recent Ministry of Education initiatives in mathematics.
